The first person to typically read the script is a Story Analyst -- also called a Reader.
A story analyst reads the script, evaluates it against professional story standards, and writes a coverage report: a breakdown of the story's strengths, weaknesses, and potential. That coverage goes up the chain and helps determine whether a project moves forward.

I've read over 11,000 screenplays for Hollywood producers. I recently co-wrote a thriller picked up by Lionsgate, and have three projects currently in development.
I'm also a certified and licensed life coach.
I've been inside this industry long enough to know two things for certain.
One: The film industry needs far more trained story analysts than it has. Producers, development executives, and independent filmmakers are constantly looking for readers who understand story at a professional level. The demand is real. The opportunities are real.
Two: Most of the people who would be extraordinary at this work have no idea it exists.
They're out there right now — watching movies, dissecting stories in their heads, noticing things about character and structure that most people walk right past — and they've never been told that those instincts translate into actual professional skills.
I started Hollywood Gatekeepers because I wanted to change that.

What if I write screenplays? I highly recommend the Career Creation Masterclass for writers. You will see how to write a screenplay that will get past a reader! Once you understand how to break down a story, writing one is much easier. Learning screenplay analysis from a reader's perspective allows you to see why people choose certain films to develop. I have had many rewriting gigs based on the relationships I made as a story expert. The current film I've been commissioned to write all started because the producer was someone I worked with as a story consultant on a previous project.
But what if I live in (insert hometown here)?
Producers and writers need good story experts - they don't care where the expert lives. There also might be opportunities right under your nose. Many communities have screenplay festivals, competitions, and conferences, and if you're a native English speaker in a country where English isn't the primary language, there will be a wealth of opportunities for you.
What if I don’t have time? As your coach and mentor, I will challenge you on that. We all have the same amount of time. It’s up to you to use the time to do the things that are important to you. You have to value the things you want. If you want to know what you value, look at what you did today, and yesterday, and the day before that. I want to get you to where you are doing things to build your career every day. Even if it’s just for a few minutes. There are people who are changing the world with the time that they have.
